UPDATE: "Beta 1.1" of Mobile Suit Gundam Movie I The Complete Version Is Coming Soon!
I'll be posting Beta 1.1 later this week. Beta 1.0 has been removed but the notes will remain for that version to read
Now for the notes:
Now for the notes:
Mobile Suit Gundam Movie I The Complete Version Beta 1.0
Total Run Time 2:48:54
Original Theatrical Version Run Time: 2:19:38
Utilizes the theatrical version of the 1981 movie, "Mobile Suit Gundam" to make an extended version with additional footage from the Mobile Suit Gundam the TV series (1979), episodes
2, 3, 7, 11, and 12, and the theatrical version of the 1982 movie "Mobile Suit Gundam II: Soldiers of Sorrow".
Extended Scene 31:27-31:36 “Destroying Unusable V Project
Parts”
TV footage is used from 31:13-31:36. From 31:13-31:26, the
same dialogue is used in the TV and movie versions. Amuro in the movie version
says he’s going to use the beam rifle to destroy the remaining V Project parts
after grabbing Sayla in the Gundam’s hand. In the movie version the parts are
shown on fire as Sayla and Amuro ascend on the elevator. In the TV version the
Gundam is shown using the beam rifle to destroy the parts while they ascend on
the elevator. This scene is restored for the complete version.
Extended Scene 37:15-37:57 “The Beam Rifle’s Power”
TV footage used for death of Slender and aftermath with Char
mentioning that he can’t match the Gundam’s firepower
Additional Footage “Vote to Attack” 40:07-53:09
This is an edited version of the episode “Vote to Attack”
placed together in a way that follows the movie’s pacing
TV footage used From Episode 3 “Vote to Attack” For 40:07-41:52,
42:30-43:49, and 44:15-53:09. Moved Footage from Movie 1 41:53-42:29 “Repairing
the Gundam as Bright Ordered” and 43:50-44:14 “Finding Normal Suits that Fit”
Moved Footage 41:53-42:29 “Repairing the Gundam as Bright
Ordered”
Originally shown in the Movie I Theatrical Cut at
41:05-41:35
Fraw Bow speaks to Amuro about changing his clothes to point
where it was in “Vote to Attack” TV Episode. Used the movie version over the TV
version.
Moved Footage 43:50-44:14 “Finding Normal Suits that Fit”
Originally shown in the Movie I Theatrical Cut at 46:34-47:02
Footage from the movie version of Amuro, Kai, Hayato, and
Ryu finding normal suits is up moved from Atmospheric battle to before Gadem’s
Papua docks with Char’s Musai (Omitted 46-34-46:38 Line Bright explaining that White Base
will be entering the atmosphere)
Additional Footage 1:10:49-1:12:45 “Restless Refugees”
This scene was originally from the end of episode 7 but I
moved it to after the atmospheric battle’s end. We see Amuro previously in bed
exhausted and broken down. What I did was that I put this scene from episode 7
back in but as Amuro’s reintroduction back after he nearly burned up in the
atmosphere. It indicates that Amuro has a willingness to continue but then has
a breaking point after having to experience the people who he’s protecting
revolting and causing so many headaches for him. I also reintroduced this
because I noticed that Tomino seemed to remove a lot of the “restless refugees”
scenes from the movie. I found that some had some purpose and this is the first
of many attempts I will be experimenting with to add them back into the movie.
Granted, this attempt to add these back into the movie won’t be to the extent
of annoyance that was in the TV version where the refugees started to be filler
characters.
Moved Footage “Matilda Explores White Base”/”Kai Takes
Picture with the Troops”/”Matilda Gives Orders to Meet Her Again” 1:30:21-1:33:27
Originally shown in Mobile Suit Gundam Soldiers of Sorrow
08:57-11:04
I moved these Matilda scenes from Soldiers of Sorrow to the
first movie. Found out that by moving and placing them here it made for a
tighter experience in movie 2. We’re going to see more of Matilda in Movie 2’s “Complete
Version” so these scenes were better suited for the first movie rather than the
second.
Extended Scene 1:50:47-1:53:42 “The Zabi Family Speaks
about Garma’s Death”
This scene is, more or less, where it originally appeared if
this were the theatrical cut but in the TV version the narrator explains a bit
more about Zeon’s ambitions and colony designs. Keeping in line with the
narrator’s previous explanation of Luna II I felt this to be appropriate. In
addition there are additional lines of dialogue not present in the movie
version.
Additional Footage 1:53:43-2:06:50 “Icelina’s Revenge”
Why do I think this wasn’t added? To be fair I actually
think it wasn’t used because of time. As you can see this would have been the
half way point of the theatrical version and in the “Complete Version” we’re
nearly 2 hours in. Even after I shortened the sequence to 13 mins total we’d
needed all new sequences or a way for the scene to be shorter.
I want this in the movie but I am willing to make an exception
to get it removed if it slows the movie down.
Moved Footage 2:23:53-2:25:29 “General Revil speaks to
General Elran About Newtypes”
Originally Shown in Mobile Suit Gundam II Soldiers of Sorrow
07:20-08:56
Much like how it is for the prior Matilda scene that was
moved from Movie 2 to Movie 1, we will be seeing a lot more of Revil and Elran
in the next movie so moving these scenes to the first movie helps the pacing of
the next
Additional Footage 2:33:31-2:33:48 “Amuro Stares into the
Lightning”
Added footage of Amuro staring into the lightning but I
muted the audio. I had him stare while seeing Icelina’s image through the
lightning. Combine this with Amuro’s combat fatigue and this makes for a bone
chilling experience.
That’s all for this version. Another "Beta" will be released after the comment period. I'm setting the comment period to last until 10/08/2018.
